## Where it stands

This was checked against Steam’s Linux build, which hasn’t been updated since April 2020 and hasn’t been launched on the checked copy. Evil Engine finds it on its own and mounts all 5,982 of its files, every one matching Steam’s own checksums.

Almost all of the game’s content is encrypted by its developer: 5,409 of its 5,412 packages, its config and some of its music. Those are noted on the mount and left out of every part, so a server never asks for something that can’t be read. That leaves one part, `audio`, the game’s 486 sound banks and media.

## Known issues

- Only the frozen 2020 Linux build has been checked. The Windows, macOS and Epic copies haven’t been looked at yet.
- What the game writes when it runs hasn’t been checked, since it hasn’t been launched on the checked copy.

## Next up

- A first launch, to check what the game writes and where.
- Workshop maps, once one is subscribed. Players’ own maps aren’t encrypted.
- Checking the Windows, macOS and Epic copies.

## About Evil Engine

Evil Engine is a **passthrough modding** engine by Pushbar Interactive. Modding through the games you already own instead of around them: the content comes from each player's own copy and is never extracted, ported or redistributed. The term took off in September 2026 with mods that run two games at once and wire them together by hand, one pair at a time. Evil Engine comes from that lineage and makes the process repeatable: it learns each engine once, maps each game onto shared vocabularies once, and gives mods one API, so every mounted game works with every other.
