Subnautica mounts, but lists no maps in the Singleplayer menu yet.

## Where it stands

Evil Engine finds Subnautica on its own and reads it through the catalog Unity built for it, the game’s own index of its content bundles, along with the world, sound banks and text that sit beside it. That’s 15,760 files. Every one of the 5,467 bundles the catalog names is there at the size it expects, and every bundle reads back in full.

Your copy is fingerprinted in six parts named after what a server would need, such as the vehicles, the creatures, the habitat pieces and the world itself, so a server spawning a vehicle doesn’t ask for the whole 6.6 GB install. Every file matched Steam’s own checksums.

## Known issues

- The game hasn’t been launched on this copy yet, so what it writes once it runs hasn’t been checked.
- Below Zero is a different game and isn’t recognised yet.
- The Mac version isn’t recognised until it’s been checked.

## Next up

- Launching the game once and checking what it writes.
- Mods, once there’s a modded copy to look at.
- A look at Below Zero’s install, for what it shares with Subnautica.

## About Evil Engine

Evil Engine is a **passthrough modding** engine by Pushbar Interactive. Modding through the games you already own instead of around them: the content comes from each player's own copy and is never extracted, ported or redistributed. The term took off in September 2026 with mods that run two games at once and wire them together by hand, one pair at a time. Evil Engine comes from that lineage and makes the process repeatable: it learns each engine once, maps each game onto shared vocabularies once, and gives mods one API, so every mounted game works with every other.
