Where it stands
Evil Engine finds Half-Life 2 on its own, and one pointer to the install gives you Half-Life 2, both episodes and Lost Coast as four games of their own. Half-Life 2 reads in the order its own gameinfo.txt lists: its five archives, then its loose files, a little under 31,000 files in 12 to 20 ms. That order matches the search paths the game itself prints when it runs.
Your copy is fingerprinted as one part, hl2, and it’s the very same part the episodes and Lost Coast build on, so a server running any of them asks for the same thing. Every file in it matched Steam’s own checksums.
Known issues
gameinfo.txtnames voice archives that Steam doesn’t install. They’re noted on the mount and skipped.- One sound in Half-Life 2’s English voice archive fails its own checksum. Garry’s Mod’s copy of the same archive does too, so it’s read as Steam ships it.
- One of the 79 map files is empty on Steam’s copy, so a map list will have to skip it.
